Super Bowl XLVIII week: Randall Cobb to perform on Broadway
Weird things tend to happen during the weeks leading up to the Super Bowl. In anticipation of Super Bowl XLVIII between the Denver Broncos and Seattle Seahawks, members of the Green Bay Packers are staying in the news.
It’s been for all good reasons, which is, well, good. Aaron Rodgers will accept the Bart Starr Award in New York on Friday. Eddie Lacy will be present for NFL Honors night, hopefully to take home the NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year award. But the most unexpected Packers player to get involved this week, so far, has to be wide receiver Randall Cobb, who’ll perform in a Broadway musical tonight with the cast of “Rock of Ages.”
Yup. Cobb is joined by formers Packers running back Ahman Green, who is set to appear in the musical on Saturday, and Detroit Lions running back Joique Bell, who will join the cast for a Wednesday show.
The roles Cobb and Green will be playing are unknown, but we’re excited to hear the reviews afterwards, though we hope Cobb’s not so good that he’d consider leaving his day job. We already knew he was a versatile talent, this, though, is even more than we’d expect, but maybe “Rock of Ages” needed a dynamic player in the slot, or a sure-handed-yet-dangerous return man. Maybe Cobb will be the next person to crossover between sports and music. Whatever happens after tonight, this is still the good kind of surprise you can sometimes find during Super Bowl week. We’d say break a leg, Randall, but we definitely would not want that for you again.
